Established in 1976, the Canadian Institute of Strategic Studies (CISS) has gained wide recognition as the nation's foremost source of independent and balanced information and research on a broad range of issues affecting Canada. It satisfies a need for a body of informed opinion on defence and security issues and stimulates greater public awareness of national and international developments.
Through a dynamic program of seminars, publications, educational activities and media relations, the CISS enhances the basis for informed choice by the Canadian public and its leaders. The CISS is a member-based, independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization, attracting concerned citizens from a wide range of backgrounds. It is primarily concerned with the analysis and interpretation of contemporary strategic issues. The Institute is not intended to be a forum for single-issue advocacy or lobbying.
